The Flick

Hi, I'm Caroline Barnes and I'm now going to show you how to create `The Flick'.

OK when people are using traditional liquid eye liner they tend to do the flick shape which is inspired by the kind of Marilyn Monroe 1950s era. I'm going to use the Smoke colour, which is like a very soft grey - very flattering for your kind of eye colour or generally a pale eye. And the reason why Glide & Define is so helpful in creating such a precise shape is because the nib is so fine, it allows us to get a really nice fine line on the inner corner, building up to a thicker line and then creating a nice flick. So you just have to kind of go for it and trust that the brush will work for you.

So what I'm going to get you to do is just tip your chin up just slightly, and when you're at home you can rest your elbow on a surface just to give yourself a little bit more stability. And when you're starting on the inner corner of the eye, you need to look outwards. So I'm going to start on your left eye, so Simone if you just look out for me just to your left, that's great. And what this does is just stretches the eye for me and allows me to paint just on the inner side there and gives me a nice smooth line.

And then look towards me - that's perfect...and just close your eye for me...I'm going to get you to close your eye and just using the side of the brush very easy, just sweeping up this way and giving it a lovely lift just at the edge. And then bring the eye liner back on itself and you get that perfect flick. And to really sharpen the outer flick, what you can do is take a cotton bud, put a little bit of eye make-up remover on it and just take it underneath and just sweep it out - and that's a little trick that gives you a perfect fine edge to the finished look.

OK so now we've finished the eyeliner it's really important to let it dry first before we put the mascara on - and I'm going to use one coat of Max Factor Masterpiece Mascara - just keeping it a little bit top-heavy, just on the top lashes. OK if you want to look down for me...and the wonderful thing about this eyeliner is that it suits all different eye shapes, it's very, very flattering and very easy to use. And actually, it forms the basis of a lot of looks that we're going to be doing later. So I'm using this great mascara wand just to really lift the lashes and pull them out - gorgeous.

So Simone you look really beautiful and very demure and it's a lovely day look, but you can also use it for a night look as well by adding a bit of smudgy liner underneath and create a `Rock Chick' look - check out the vodcast to see how.
